It's called "highlife" but it's really not like any other highlife record. The piano style by Ray Ellis in particular sounds very Cuban -- the way Cuban musicians would play in the '40s and '50s at least. But there's also a mid-60s pop-jazz American touch to it as well -- almost sounds a bit like something by Herb Alpert or Vince Guaraldi or The Tijuana Brass.<br /><br />"Unique" is really the only way to describe this album! The outstanding tracks are "Sasabonsam" and "Kwadede."apersonnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7400063036260543724.post-1273002252034446762011-01-21T03:05:50.525+00:002011-01-21T03:05:50.525+00:00I look forward to cranking some of these selection...I look forward to cranking some of these selections tomorrow (especially this one) during the daylight hours. <br />Thanks so muchm c https://www.blogger.com/profile/13515816143095967121noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7400063036260543724.post-39958465741201346072010-11-13T23:50:15.477+00:002010-11-13T23:50:15.477+00:00exciting album. marvellous cover!
